The workshop will focus on the benefits and challenges of starting one's private practice. We will explore both practical and structural challenges of starting and running your own practice. We will also explore how to balance running a practice while working with marginalized, exploited, racialized and vulnerable communities.


Fedora Mathieu

Fedora Mathieu graduated with an LL.B. from the University of Montreal in 2010 and a Master of Laws, LL.M. from the University of Ottawa in 2014. In October 2013, she started her own practice in Immigration and Refugee Law in Montreal. From 2013 to 2015, she was involved with Amnesty International Canada, Francophone division, where she was Coordinator for the records of asylum seekers.


Tatiana Gomez

Tatiana Gomez graduated from McGill Law in 2008. She was called to the Quebec Bar in 2010 and started her own practice that same year. She is the daughter of working class, immigrant parents. She has been active in migrant justice struggles for over 15 years
